Athletics

Dear Parents and Athletes:

Welcome to the 2011-2012 interscholastic athletic program at Missisquoi Valley Union Middle and High School. This brochure includes our athletic philosophy, the parent/coach communication plan, a protocol for registering concerns, the required parent permission and medical release forms which must be returned to the coach prior to the first practice, athletic rules and policies and the MVU RULES OF SPORTSMANSHIP for players and spectators who attend our events. Please review this document carefully, and if you have any questions feel free to contact the school.

During the 2010-2011 school year, it was good to be a Thunderbird. Our boys’ and girls’ athletic programs were extremely successful. During the fall our boys’ varsity soccer team won the State Championship in Division II beating U-32. The Boys’ Cross Country Team was the State Runners-up in Division II. The Field Hockey team lost in the State Championship game to Rice in penalty strokes. Both the Field Hockey team and the Boys’ Cross Country team had many underclassmen on their rosters so their futures look very bright. During the winter, the Boys’ Basketball Team won the State Championship beating Fair Haven. In the spring, the Track and Field Team had a great spring bringing home one individual State Championship and three State Championships for the relay teams. All the state champions went on to compete in the New England Track Meet. The varsity baseball team had a great end on the season run hosting three playoff games on their way to winning the State Championship in Montpelier by beating Burr and Burton 7-1. Congratulations go out to all Missisquoi Valley student/athletes both in the Middle School and High School who proudly represent MVU.

As always we desire to have everyone associated with the MVU athletic program; players, coaches and fans and parents to be positive examples and role models at all times. We want the student/athletes who represent us to be the BEST PEOPLE, BEST STUDENTS and the BEST ATHLETES possible. Sportsmanship and respect within the entire MVU athletic community will be a point of emphasis this year. Your support is needed and greatly appreciated by our athletes and our school. I believe Missisquoi has some of the best fan support in the state.  Please come out and watch your child and their team play whenever possible. Another way to support the athletes and the athletic program is to get involved in the Booster Club. This is a great way to be involved and meet new people. It is my hope that you and your child will enjoy the opportunities and experiences provided by the Missisquoi Valley Middle and High School Athletic Program. I wish the best of luck to the student/athletes in the upcoming academic and athletic school year.

Best Wishes,

David Rousselle, Director of Athletics
